Quick Photo Editor For Mac

Photo editors for Mac users are nearly a dime a dozen. Every week seems to bring a new photo editor with something similar to the one that was released last week.

Non-destructive filters and effects that can be stacked on top of one another to create a near endless number of photo effects. Each of them have three things in common. They’re all low in price. They all do more than iPhoto but less than Photoshop. They all rely on Mac OS X’s built-in graphics features. Here’s one that’s different.

The Same, But Different

Moving to the top of my list of inexpensive Mac photo editors is Analog (from a Mac-only developer who’s been around awhile), an editor with a notable difference.

As with most of the new breed of photo editors, Analog gives you point and click access to a wide variety of filters and effects.

Additionally, Analog features a set of borders to give your photos a more distinctive look, whether you share photos online, upload, or email to friends and family.

The Mac is still the best device for serious photo editing, so you need some serious photo editing apps to make an impact. The built-in Photos app on Mac offers several useful photo editing tools. You can crop, adjust lighting and color, set the white balance, add filters, remove unwanted blemishes, and a few more things.

The user interface is instantly familiar and usable. You’ll see thumbnails of each filter or effect (but not of your photo until you click).

This is about as easy as it gets. You won’t find a bunch of settings or adjustments. It’s purely point and click.

What you see is what you get. Quick and dirty ease of use is the key differentiator.

One click brings up a menu to save or share your photo.

The choices are basic. Save the photo, send the photo using Mail.

Or, upload the photo to any one of four online services; CloudApp, Facebook, Flickr, or Picasa. All it takes is another click (the first time you upload you’ll be asked to enter your online account information).

Analog lets you crop photos, view the work full screen, add borders with a click, but there’s no way to stack effects and filters as with other photo editors.

This is nicely done and easy as pie but limited. It doesn’t have the fun aspect of Funtastic Photos (which doesn’t have the easy sharing), and it’s not as powerful as FX Photo Studio Pro.
